RECYCLING PROGRAM

The Village of Greenhills offers recycling through Rumpke at a cost of $12/year. The billing cycle is from June 1 to May 31. You may begin recycling at any time during the year, and the fee will be prorated. Just call the Municipal Office at 825-2100 to determine the cost, then either mail a check and a red recycling bin will be delivered to your address, or stop in to pick up your bin. Regular office hourse are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Below is a list of items to be placed in your red bin. After 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening, place the bin at the curb by your trash. Recycling bins are usually picked up later in the afternoon and are serviced by a second truck. Only the items listed below are accepted in the program. Anything else will be tagged as unacceptable. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Village office at 825-2100.

Abitibi mixed paper recycling collection bins are located at the Greenhills Community Presbyterian Church, Winton and Cromwell Roads in the rear of the Church Parking Lot and also behind the Greenhills Community Building (WWCSD Building on the corner of Enfield and Jack Molloy Lane), in the rear of the parking lot area.

The Abitibi paper recycling containers are brightly painted to draw attention to their location and usage. This additional program will assist the Village with its overall recycling efforts and bring additional recycling dollars back to the Village through programs sponsored by Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services, Solid Waste Management District.

WHY NOT?
PLASTIC
Caps The caps are not made of the same plastic as the bottle, so they end up becoming a contaminant in the system.
#3,#4,#5,#6,#7 Markets for these types of plastics are limited. Even if the label says the bottle is recyclable, we currently have no market for them. You may want to call the manufacturer of the produc and suggest using different packaging. Look for products in recyclable containers.
Bowls, buckets, tubs, or #1 food trays and containers Although they are marked #1 or #2 plastic, these containers are different. They have a chemical additive that makes them act negatively in the recycling process.
Oil jugs or antifreeze Oil is a contaminant to a recycler's cleaning process. Even if the bottle has been washed, our markets still identify it as an oil jug.
Film or plastic bags There are many different types of plastic bags, which makes it impossible for us to separate them. Your local grocer may recycle their own bags. Also check with local schools, which might have recycling programs.
GLASS
Lids Lids contaminate the glass.
Window glass, drinking glass, mirrors, light bulbs These types of glass are chemically different than the glass in bottles and jars; therefore, they are contaminants.
Broken glass The potential for glass to fall on the street or for you and the driver to be cut is too high.
PAPER
Pizza boxes May contain food waste, which is a contaminant. The grease is also a contaminant.
Milk cartons May contain food waste, which is a contaminant. The caarton is lined with a plastic film.
CANS
Paint cans Paint is a special waste and not compatible with the recycling process. Paint cans can be accepted if they are completely free of paint.
Coat hangers & steel scrap These are recyclable products, but Rumpke does not accept them on curbside collection due to such a small volume. Try calling your local scrap dealer.
