Residents Have Responsibilities, Too!
These responsibilities are required by law of every resident of Greenhills. Failure to comply can result in fines and court appearances. The following are general summaries of common ordinances.
- Grass and weeds must be cut before reaching a height above 10 inches, and/or before blooming or going to seed.
- Trees must be kept trimmed to an eight (8) foot clearance over sidewalks.
- Hedges, shrubs, walls, and fences may be no higher than three (3) feet in the front and six (6) feet in the rear yards. Fences and walls require a permit to build.
- All exterior wood surfaces of residences that are NOT of a species inherently resistant to decay (such as redwood or cedar) must be treated periodically with an approved protective coating, such as paint.
- Broken windows must be repaired promptly.
- Motorized vehicles may not be parked on unpaved surfaces in front yard.
- Vehicles parked on the street must be moved within a 72-hour period.
- Litter, trash, rubbish, and debris must not accumulate on any property at any time.
- Litter, garbage, grass, leaves, limbs, or other debris cannot be dumped in any park, open field, street ditch, sewer, wooded area, or privately owned dumpster.
- Garbage and other debris must be stored in tightly covered, solid containers. Garbage cans must be removed by 8 PM the day of collection.
- Cruelty to animals is prohibited. Animals must have appropriate licenses, inoculations, food, water, and shelter from the weather.
- Animals must be on a leash or restrained by a fence. Animals running free may be impounded by the Police Department and can be turned over to the SPCA.
- House numbers must be mounted on the house and clearly visible from the street.
- Swimming pools must be maintained to prevent health and safety hazards; e.g., free from debris, leaves, rodents, etc. Gates to the pool area must be kept closed at all times. Swimming pools over 24 inches deep require a permit to construct.
