What can I recycle in my curbside bin?

The following items can be recycled in your curbside bin:

  • #1 and #2 plastic bottles only (remove the lids)
  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Phone books
  • Brown paper grocery bags
  • Glass bottles and jars (remove lids)

Where do I get a recycling bin?

Cities and villages that contract for recycling, typically, require the residents to contact the municipal building or service department. Usually, this is required so the hauler can keep track of the number of households that are currently participating in the curbside recycling program.

Why can't I put butter tubs in my cuthside bin?

Currently, the only type of plastic accepted in your curbside bin or drop off program are #1 and #2 plastic bottles. Recyclers in Hamilton County only have markets for the plastic bottles at this time.


How do I dispose of latex paint?

Latex paint that has not been frozen or hardened can be taken to local Hader Hardware stores (5 gallons or less at a time). All paint will be recycled.

If the latex paint is unusable, you can dry it out with kitty litter or sawdust and throw it away with your regular garbage. Remove the lid so the hauler can see that the paint is dry.


How do I dispose of oil-based paint?

Currently, there is no recycling outlet for oil-based paint. Residents can dry it out with kitty litter or sawdust and throw it away with their regular garbage.


How do I dispose of household hazardous materials?

Visit Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District's website at www.hcdoes.org to download a copy of the Household Hazardous Materials Handbook which lists outlets for most types of hazardous materials. You can also call the Hazardous Materials Hotline at 946-7700 to request a copy.


How can I recycle my motor oil?

Residents can drop off up to 5 gallons of used motor oil to the following locations during business hours:

  • Auto Zone - All Greater Cincinnati locations
  • ProCare Automotive
  • Valvoline - All Greater Cincinnati locations.

How can I recycle my yardwaste?

Hamilton County residents can drop off yardwaste at any of the County's free yardwaste drop off sites. Site locations are:

  • Evans Landscaping - 3700 Roundbottom Road in Newtown
  • Kuliga Park - 6717 Bridgetown Road in Green Township
  • Rumpke Sanitary Landfill - Struble and Colerain in Colerain Township

All sites are open on Saturdays and Sundays during specified times of the year. To find out the times, call the Yardwaste Hotline at 946-7755.

How do I dispose of my refrigerator?

The freon must be removed by a certified technician (see 'refrigerator repair' in the Yellow Pages). Place removal certificate on the refrigerator - your hauler will not pick it up otherwise.


How do I get rid of old tires?

  • Whole tires are banned from landfills. To dispose of your tires, take them to the following locations (each location does charge a small fee):

How do I get rid of my computer?

Legally, residents can throw their computers away with their regular garbage. However, because of the amount of hazardous materials in a computer, it is recommended that residents take their computers to a reuse or recycling outlet. The following outlets accept computers that are a 486 or better:

  • TRG - Technology Recycling Group - 761-5333
  • Ohio Valley Goodwill - 771-4800
  • USA Lamp & Ballast - 641-4149 (charge approximately $15). Accepts any computer (even 386).
